1.5V AAA batteries (NOT 1.2V AAA) must be used, otherwise the device not working. This most likely applies to all remotes, not just ROKU. I tried using a couple of "rechargeable" 1.2V AAA batteries I had on hand, but they didn't have enough energy to power the remote. Actually, the battery pack is a far cry from using 1.5V AAA batteries. Note 1: Most batteries are 1.2V. Note 2: 1.5V batteries are only now on board, but they are slightly more expensive.
