Review on ๐ŸŸ EHEIM Everyday Fish Feeder: Programmable Automatic Food Dispenser for Effortless Feeding by Kayla Watson

EHEIM automatic feeder

The device makes a solid impression. The feed drum slides securely on its pin. Programming is very easy with one little thing you should read the instructions for. The block is weighted and has felt pads for the feet. It comes with a clip that can be attached to the edge of the tank. Batteries in the packaging must not be used for power supply. It's good to test the product and I had no issues with it, but if you actually need to use the product, why trust unnamed Chinese batteries that have been in the box for who knows how long? Use reliable batteries like Duracell or Energizer. Some people have complained that the amount of feed needs to be adjusted after setting the feeding time, and that it should be automatic so that there is at least one feeding. The need to adjust the amount of feed is intentional. This allows you to stop feeding without removing the batteries from the device and restart it. If you have a feed and want to turn it off, set the feed amount to zero. Otherwise if you set the timer to 00:00 he will think you want to feed at midnight (because he uses military time). This has more to do with the design of this type of device than the device itself. Grinding the flakes won't help much, but it will still be uneven. The feed distribution is very wide. The hole you need to use should be as wide, if not a little wider, than the drum itself. Most of the food will be thrown out when the drum rotates back up. The feed door is too easy to open and difficult to adjust exactly where you want it without a light tap stopping it from moving. The door clicks when closing, but the clicking is much quieter when opening, and it's easy to get past where you intended to open it. Clicks should be of equal force when opening and closing. The food gets wet. It turns out that if the feed slot is above water, the feed will get wet in any case (and it should work). I had it on the lid of the tank just a little above the water and the feed got wet and plugged part of the feed hole. I came home and found that two of my fish were dead. When I tested the unit there was an issue with an ammonia spike with occasional overfeeding (I thought I set the feeder to the correct amount and the fish are getting it all but they aren't) so I don't know if that's the case is due to ammonia damage or due to lack of food, but if I knew there was not enough food the score would be much lower. The company advertises that it has a fan that keeps food dry. This fan only runs when there is power. There is no way to keep food dry all the time. It works for the 10 or so seconds it takes to feed 1-4 times a day (depending on how often you set it to feed) versus the rest of the time it doesn't work. While this isn't a disadvantage, it would be nice if the device had an additional power supply to power it and if there was an option to run the fan all the time. There are other feeders out there but the cheaper ones seem really crappy. This is a regular feeder (would be great if the feed moisture issue was solved) with a few issues. The door can be taped shut, the problem of feed spillage is solved either by using it on the edge of your tank (if you don't have a lid) or using it over a wide opening. The wet food problem could be solved if they had the option to keep the fan on all the time, or maybe if you put a small fan next to your tank, facing the unit to prevent evaporating and/or accumulates splashing water. Otherwise it kills its purpose.
