Can't put batteries in without cutting plastic

These are adorable toys. But it is impossible to open, only the car keys came with batteries inside, other toys had the batteries packed and in the bag, but it is very difficult to open the toys to put the batteries. I almost gave up putting the batteries in. UPDATE: Almost a month later I finally took a knife and cut out the back panel to insert the batteries. The sound effects work better, except on the phone, even after putting in new batteries there was no sound.
