The holes are poorly drilled
The holes on these dowels for the dowels should be 3/8" but the 3/8" rod doesn't fit about 3/4 of them. The holes themselves aren't perfectly round, which might explain some of the problems; others appear round but should be smaller. I was able to use a small tool to pop the part out and make the defective ones usable, but that's not necessary. Wooden balls are fine on their own but without a properly drilled and sized hole to use as real dowel caps they are disappointing and not what I would call a quality item.
