Review on High-Performance Dayton Audio DC160-4 6-1/2" ๐Ÿ”Š Classic Woofer Speaker: A Dynamic Sound Experience by Michael Robinson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Poor midrange performance

I think they will perform better as mid-bass in 3-band tuning than mid-bass in 2-band (ie 250Hz and below). I used these for a cheap 2 track setup in my car (DA DC160.4 and DA PS95-8). I fed them 75 watts (rms), each of them crossing the frequency band between 80 and 1000 Hz via a mini DSP crossover. I've also hidden and sealed the doors to give them the best chance. After a lot of listening and tweaking the EQ, I decided I really didn't like the sound. They just don't reproduce the mid-tones very well, which is odd as the frequency response graph datasheet on the Dayton website says they're fairly linear up to 2000Hz. I now know that frequency response is not the only factor to consider when predicting driver performance. I ended up replacing them with Madisound 6.5" silver flutes and was much happier.
