The knock is back! About Car & Vehicle Electronics

Purchased to replace weak rear speakers in a 1998 MB E320. Sounds great with an aftermarket 50W RMS/channel amp powered by a Kenwood deck. Really responsive at normal volume, LPF limit set at 160Hz. You CAN be overwhelmed by this modest amp at high volume due to the soft, flexing cone suspension, but my hearing is already damaged so I typically hear less than bloody levels. For me they are the perfect replacement. they rock!

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Purchased to replace a broken subwoofer head in a Mission FS2. The size is almost the same as the original but heavier and stronger. The mounting holes are a bit off (US and UK), but they were still easy to install. The sub now sounds as good or even better than the original. The original mission head would have cost me a hundred bucks if available - luckily all my emails on mission got bounced and I found this (better) alternative.

Great speakers, great price!

This is a beautiful and responsive woofer that I installed in my car as a rear speaker. I hooked them up to an Alpine 4-way bass-only amp (subwoofer). However, I tested them on my Yamaha home amp in a simple sealed box and the sound clarity is very good, albeit without the tweeter. To give you a good idea, I'm really considering replacing my Infinity reference woofer with Dayton reference front woofers. Very happy with this product.

Great sound for a low price

Installed a pair of these in the trunk of a 2002 Civic. I had to slightly alter the mounting hole to make it fit. Once installed, these things rule! I chose these for their good x-max and frequency response and DC resistance. My goal was to improve bass response without a subwoofer; They haven't even been broken in yet, but heck they really shine for the use I've described. Now I need to dampen vibrations that weren't there before. Used with 30 watts RMS power per amplifier channel. Highlyโ€ฆ

Not the best, not the worst.

Replaced several drivers in my JBL bookshelf speakers. They perform about the same and don't sound as good as the JBL drivers, but are good enough for the money without having to replace the speakers entirely. They don't deliver as deep bass as the JBL drivers and are a little muddy in the upper bass ranges, but overall they're okay. Good for TV, but audiophiles might not like listening to music. Using them in place of JBL drivers reduced the overall impedance from 8 ohms to 4 ohms. My amp hasโ€ฆ

Inexpensive speaker replacement.

I used these speakers to replace the woofers in my Klipsch ProMedia 4.1. Everything was great except I couldn't get the grille back onto these speakers. It's not a speaker issue, just a design feature of the Klipsch subwoofer. In terms of sound quality, they work just as well as what came inside, and maybe a little better. The bass is a little deeper and they seem to be doing the hard work. I connected them to my HTPC and they worked well when playing some of my high quality Bluray movies withโ€ฆ

Poor midrange performance

I think they will perform better as mid-bass in 3-band tuning than mid-bass in 2-band (ie 250Hz and below). I used these for a cheap 2 track setup in my car (DA DC160.4 and DA PS95-8). I fed them 75 watts (rms), each of them crossing the frequency band between 80 and 1000 Hz via a mini DSP crossover. I've also hidden and sealed the doors to give them the best chance. After a lot of listening and tweaking the EQ, I decided I really didn't like the sound. They just don't reproduce the mid-tonesโ€ฆ

Replacement speakers for my '96 Ford Explorer XLT.

Purchased to replace a poor mid-bass driver in a recently purchased '96 Explorer XLT. My first choice would be a factory replacement from a Ford dealer, but that part is no longer available so the search began for a speaker that would fit in the factory box without modification and produce a nice clean sound. It was an exact fit and even the cable connectors slipped right in with a little tweaking! I googled a bit to find the info to make sure the polarity is in sync (black/light green +โ€ฆ
