When trying to find a small silent fan, I felt stupid reading dozens of reviews from dozens of fans. Now I feel even more stupid writing alone. But this fan is worth the stupidity. 1) It's small (2-3 fists (little pinky down, thumbs up) high x 2-3 fists wide, including blades when running) - or just grab a tape measure and look at the measurements. 2) calm. The previous wood drying fan (wood heated) had fixed blades (this fan has fabric blades making it quieter) and I could hear it 30 feet away at night. I don't hear that. 3) Moves enough air to dry firewood or cool electronics (2 actual uses to date - yes I bought two). I find that most people want more airflow past them than is necessary for efficient cooling. It's certainly not going to be a dramatic movie scene with hair blowing in the wind, but you don't really need that much airflow to cool you down - the air can slowly wash around you and absorb heat and pull that heat away from you. . 4) sure - cloth blades (I know it sounds crazy, but believe me - it works). When your hands hit the blades (there is no cage for the blades as there is no requirement) they don't hurt at all. My kids play with a fan to cool them down during band practice. They prefer the sound and feel of rag blades sliding past their fingers to spending time practicing - yes, it's a regular question if this counts as practice time (spoiler alert: it doesn't). 5) I can't tell firsthand what it will be like to travel, but I suspect it would be great if your goal was to cool down. If you need white noise, then all is not so well. Were there speculative 4 stars for travel. It is easy to transport because the cloth blades cannot break when packed in a bag or folded. 6) The on/off switch is located behind the fan and it can be a bit difficult to reach the fan to turn it off. In fact, this isn't scary at all as the blades don't have a clip around them (not necessary at all - it reduces volume). The blades won't hurt you at all if they hit you - they just startle you and make a "pop" sound. After playing with the orchestra for a minute or two, you'll get used to the sound and stop thinking about it when you happen upon the blades.tldr; Now create a product that works very well. A small desktop fan in the office or for selective cooling (electronics) or drying (wood, dryers, etc.) would be great. If you want white noise or blown back hair you will be disappointed (and I suspect you should consider how many cfm you really need or expect from a 2 1/2 x 2 1 fan/2).
