I had already ordered an amazing tatami mat from the same company and it came in a box that looked almost identical to the futon, with the same cute paper crane on it. on the outside of the box. I was nervous about the comfort as the futon is very thin. It comes in a giant zipped bag and starts to inflate as soon as you open it. At first there was a slight smell of plastic. I hung it outside over my kid's easel and let it air out a few hours before bed by turning it over so the sun hits both sides. No more smell of plastic before bed. I thought it was a little smaller than tatami but it reached to the edges. I used a regular double size sheet with elastic all the way around and it was very tight along the length but it worked. I sleep on my side and was a bit nervous but slept like a dream on these two thin strong layers. The pleasant herbal smell of the tatami was so pleasant. I would recommend cleaning your carpets/floors very well because when you are at eye level with the floor you will see a lot of dust. We measured and our king bed fits two tatami mats and one twin XL futon, so I will be ordering a second set. I also like the idea of using two lightweight double futons instead of the heavier and more bulky larger single futon. Also great fast shipping.
