To minimize this, open up the hole slots by re-punching them from the back (if possible). The punches worked well with nylon threads up to 150 denier. So far not a single pin has broken. Make sure the punch is pressed against the skin and hit it with a mallet (a 5- to 6-ounce hammer works well). Use a soft touch such as B. a piece of white pine, as the pins of the punches need to penetrate about 1/4 inch past the back of the leather to open the hole to the full diameter of the pin.
