Finally time to try them. The description of these punches looks like they pierce holes in the skin. They aren't, except on the surface. They create slits large enough for needles with larger threads to pass through. The slits also narrow if you sew them too long. To minimize this, open up the hole slots by re-punching them from the back (if possible). The punches worked well with nylon threads up to 150 denier. So far not a single pin has broken. Make sure the punch is pressed against the skin

Amazing Quality Punches

I have been a leatherworking artist for over 25 years and I use diamond shaped punches extensively. I've been using the Craftool Pro punch set from Tandy Leather for years. They've definitely stood the test of time, but these aren't the most perfect punches for finer work. If you can't afford or don't want to spend money on high-end pro kicks, there are a few other options. These dies are similar in style to those from Weaver Leather Supply but are actually higher quality. What surprised me…

Works great and cheap.

I try not to write a review until I use the product. I've finally started using this set of lace up bits and am very happy with the product as long as they don't punch holes without me touching them. I'm new to using sewing/lacing chisels as I'm just a casual dab at the leather shop. For many years I used a simple awl and punch. As you can imagine these tools are quite labor intensive when making bags or cases, I know because I have made several of these tools. Using a hole punch and awl to…

THEY WORK. WITH A LITTLE LUB AND TIME TO MAKE THEM

Love the fact that I got a set of piercing glands for $11. These are NOT punches. They can be made to cut relatively thick leather, 4-5mm thick, but when finished they are only good for marking stitch holes. To use it for cutting leather up to 6mm thick, the sharpness and surface finish of the teeth are insufficient. I decided to invest $11 in these tools despite the bad ratings (or rave reviews) knowing I would try to polish the surface of the teeth and see if the steel would hold up to a…
