I am using Linux Mint in my shop with a regular SB16 sound card. The CD player's internal gain is not sufficient to drive my Kenwood amplifier properly. I connected this device between the sound card and the amplifier - and more than adequately solved the problem of input amplification without distortion and with sufficient headroom both at the level of the sound card and at the output of the amplifier. So much so that instead of the Kenwood L/R front set I added an old American Acoustics speaker set and as a result I flew out of the store with a few dB of overhead. Good product, a little pricey for what it is but solves the input level issues.
