These were the very first headphones that I had ever purchased singularly, rather than as part of a set that also included other items. When I first heard how different music can sound, I was blown away. They definitely took me by surprise! BUT then my cable snapped, so I went out and bought myself a Sennheiser HD 205 (which cost me an additional 200 dollars), and I just fixed them today! When I started contrasting the two, the joy I was feeling immediately vanished! Naturally, the Sennheisers are pounding in an extremely intense manner! This is their primary shortcoming, however the headphones are valued for their SOUND QUALITY, and the Koss Porta Pro falls short in this regard and falls short in a significant way. If at Sennheiser you are able to hear everything with pinpoint accuracy, then I didn't care for the mids here, and KOSS is trying to conceal this deficiency with awful bass that sounds virtually everywhere (both where it is necessary and where it is not necessary)! If we compare the averages to the basses, we find that, on the whole, the averages are still bearable. The bass is generally good up to a certain level, but after that it just becomes a complete and utter disaster! The highs are quite average; beyond that, I don't have much else to say about them. If you have never purchased headphones for this price before and you need them for your player or phone, then you can get these. However, if you have never purchased headphones for this price before and your hearing is normal, then I do not recommend these headphones to you!
