It's definitely too heavy for baby and too big. The description is somewhat descriptive. A smaller blanket might be suitable for a toddler but not having seen him physically I'm not sure. I love that the duvet also has a zippered cover so the duvet doesn't get dirty. They're not that easy to wash, so having a cover is important. Total beads in a blanket 13 pounds. When you put it on, the weight immediately falls on you, but then something else appears. Relief, fear seem to despair. That is a cultivated and indescribable feeling. This duvet really does something and relaxes your body and muscles, helping you relax and sleep well. It also helps with throws and spins as it keeps you in one place due to the weight. The picture shows someone wrapping themselves in it. A weighted blanket isn't something you would do this with, so that loosens up a bit too. This is a really good blanket and helps with sleeping.
