Possible solution to problems

I was happy to find seals in stock. Like a few other reviewers, I was disappointed that they didn't work. They were all installed in the places they were supposed to fit, but when the lid was placed in the "open" position, there wasn't enough opening between the "cup" and the outer seal for the coffee to flow . I bought my mug over 5 years ago so the thermos may have changed design/supplier at some point. I still really like the mug, but I'm not thrilled with the increasingly chic brown inserts. I already threw away those old pads so I played around with them to try and get them to work. I have found that the problem is with the flat gasket that goes over the retaining cap. The problem with the kit is that the flat gasket is only slightly thicker than the original gasket. So thick that the "plate" sits right next to the outer seal (even when the lid is in the open position). I've added some photos to try and illustrate a solution. The flat gasket has two protruding rings. A ring is located on the inner edge. The other is about halfway between the inner and outer edges. I took a razor blade and shaved off the outer ring. I didn't have to remove the inner ring - mileage may vary. Once installed it is still a tighter fit than the old gasket but in the last photo you can see that the reduced thickness provides some clearance between the plate and the outer gasket.
