Compared to RO, this is a much easier system to install. In many ways it is very similar to a UF filter installed in place of an RO filter. Sediment, granular activated carbon and carbon block filters are very similar and are commonly used in pre-membrane reverse osmosis systems. These first 3 filters remove most of the contaminants from the water before the ultrafiltration or reverse osmosis filter, which extends its lifespan. . This is a good idea as they are the most expensive filter to replace. I like the system and think it's great. You don't have to worry about a tank to store filtered water like you would with a reverse osmosis system, or if you have a tankless reverse osmosis system you don't have to worry about high enough water supply pressure or the need for a booster pump. You don't have to deal with sewage either. In addition, the water still retains most of its mineral content. You won't get water that clean, but I think it's okay for drinking water. If you need lab quality water, reverse osmosis with post DI filter is best for ultrapure water. (However, ultrapure water is not potable because drinking water really needs to have an alkaline pH and minerals.) I wish replacement filters for this system were more readily available. It would be great if they sold them in bulk so you can buy filters for several years at once and save on wholesale prices. If you have a supply of filters on hand you are much more likely to replace them at the recommended intervals than you would have to order them in the first 4 sprockets for a very good filter system.
