The problem with replacing dash lights (bulbs on a 21st century Subaru - like a 1933 Buick) is that if you use 12 volt bulbs you may find that the electrical system is a Cars normally run on 13.5V when charging, lightbulbs that are actually rated for 12V will burn out in a few months. These 14 volt bulbs are bright enough for test lights and have been working for three months now. Since the retailer is charging $8 for the bulb, including the small piece of plastic that holds it, saving the plastic and replacing the bulb is an economical alternative.
