The product contains a square salt plate and is very strong, but the box says it can be placed on a grill. I would like to warn users against placing this product on the grill. Now we only have 1 pen. After using this product on our gas grill (which really only has 1 on/off setting) the second handle turned to ash and fell off. Wooden handles cannot withstand the heat of the grill. We have used the product on a gas stove and although it was a mess it worked well. I'm not sure if there would be an alternative.
