This is a detailed review. I was very cautious about changing the battery and did a lot of research before deciding to buy this cable and do it myself. Hopefully this provides the information needed to help others make an informed decision as some of the reviews on the Revain website mention issues with the wiring of this connector. During my use I did not find any wiring issues when using my 2011 Nissan Murano and the cable worked as advertised. I can't give advice on wiring issues on other cars, but logically if it works on one OBD-II car it should work on all OBD-II cars, but be aware that there can be exceptions. Highly recommended. I used this cable on my 2011 Nissan Murano when I installed a new battery. I didn't have any problems with my battery but since it was 8 years old I decided to replace it before winter as a precaution. In no hurry, I checked the service manual for my particular model and found that it recommends using a memory/settings saver when changing the battery. According to Nissan's service manual, when the battery is disconnected without an external power source to save memory and settings, many items must be initialized (instead of being automatically reset to factory settings) through specific reset processes, including learning the accelerator pedal released pedal position, learning the closed throttle position, idle air volume learning, power window switches, sunroof switches, auto tailgate, power seat memory settings, entertainment system settings, air conditioning settings on some models, etc. You get the idea that this can easily turn into a big project if you have the memory and not save the settings. Due to the complexity of the reset process, my first inclination was to have my battery installed by a professional third party installer or dealer unless a memory/settings saver was used. To decide who should do this I called several places including two dealers (neither of whom used the save/save settings feature). I only found one third party installer that uses settings/memory saver but they didn't tell me what type so I wasn't entirely happy with them. Most others said there was no problem changing the battery without an external power supply as they had no problems with it other than resetting the radios on vehicles, which they did. One installer even said he left the engine running while changing the battery to save memory/settings (not a good option in my opinion). I wasn't happy with either of these options, so I decided to buy an adjustment/memory cable and do the work myself per the manual. Apparently the local dealers didn't read the manual or they went through the cumbersome initialization and manual reset process as it didn't use memory nor save settings. I wanted to get the job done right so I didn't have the chance of having gremlins running through my electronic control systems etc that I would have to deal with later or redo a bunch of settings. that the VSTM cable was the best choice for my application as it connects to the OBD II connector. Some memory/setting devices plug into the cigarette lighter socket of the vehicle in which the battery is being replaced. On the Murano, the cigarette lighter socket is dead when the car is off and I didn't want to power additional electrical systems by leaving the car in an accessory or in place while I disconnected the battery for the memory/settings saver to work . My decision to buy the VSTM cable was the right one. The cable worked perfectly with the car off, so minimal electrical systems were on during the replacement process. After I completed the battery swap, every setting I was able to test worked properly. Idling was fine and acceleration was as smooth as before the battery change (no drivability problems), windows worked correctly, memory seats worked correctly, entertainment system settings, phone, odometer, fuel history, service settings, etc. everything worked. There are many videos on YouTube showing you the mechanics of changing the battery in your particular car and I recommend watching a few if you have the time so there are no surprises when you do so. yourself or have the installer do this so you know what questions to ask. Caution: If you are changing the battery yourself and using a memory/setup saver, you must ensure that the positive cable is insulated and not touching any metal it is grounding while the memory/setup saver is connected. The positive wire is live, and if you accidentally ground it, it could damage one or more of your electrical systems or blow some fuses. As a precaution, I wrapped mine in a garage towel and carefully set it aside during battery changes/replacements. Your particular vehicle may not be as complex as mine, but I recommend doing a little research if possible before having the battery replaced, either by a professional installer or by yourself. If I hadn't taken the time, my results might not have been as positive, and it might have required additional effort or expense to resolve issues that might have arisen from memory leaks and settings. To be fair perhaps the battery could be removed without saving any memory/settings and not causing any problems other than resetting the radio presets as several installers have suggested to me. But I didn't want to risk it. Purchasing the VSTM cable and doing the work myself per the Nissan service manual recommendations for using the memory/setup saver gave me peace of mind that the job would be done correctly and saved me from trouble. Use a VSTM cable as it is very easy to use, well made, allows use of a cigarette lighter plug or battery clamps as a power source, and is long enough to be stretched between two cars yet has enough room to open. Doors for attaching cable ends when using a cigarette lighter adapter. It is also worth noting that when I contacted the supplier through the Revain website with some of my concerns and questions about the cable, they provided excellent customer service, were very quick to respond and gave me the details I needed.
