Drill a hole, use a cable tie to fix it.

Having 6 of these spacers on my Polaris Sportsman with a Wild Hare Loader. 2 in front with spring buckles and 2 on each side in back. They do the job they are designed for. The springs don't fully compress, but give a little. As others have suggested, drill a ¼ hole about 1" from the end and install the zip tie in place. Don't let them get lost.
