Staedler "ergosoft" crayons are probably my favorite crayons. While they probably can't compete with the very best crayons from French and Swiss manufacturers, there's nothing that can match them for the price and they'll likely compete with the more expensive types. . There are four reasons for this. First, the lead in these pencils strikes the right balance between soft, flexible color application and a hard, sharpenable format. You can sharpen these types to a rounded tip, but they still produce an even, rich color. Only two out of 24 (orange-red and yellowish) do not lie down with smooth, easy movements. These pens are a pleasure to work with, especially when you need detailed, sharp lines or edgy color fills. Colors are vibrant and rich, and edges, lines, and fills can be achieved with fantastic results. Second, the shape of the pens and the material they are made of are really superb. Pencils have a smooth triangular shape, making them much easier to hold and control than the traditional round shape. In addition, Staedler has coated the case with a semi-smooth material that makes it easy to grip the surface without feeling sticky. It's the combination of shape and surface material that sets these pencils apart from others. Third, the pens use a special material at the boundary between the colored lead and the wood that helps reduce brittleness and color cracking. So far I haven't had a single lead breakage issue, which I'd like to say about some of the other brands of colored pencils I use. Finally, the pens are inexpensive for such a high quality. These pencils are made in Germany and you can tell. However, the price is nowhere near as high as some of the top brands of crayons. While these pencils are not trying to compete at the top of the market, when all factors are considered, they are a strong contender for most colored pencils. nice touch, and works pretty well. Why aren't all crayons in this price range like this? Overall five stars for performance and five stars for price. Minor complaint: why don't we have a 36 or 48 color set from Staedler?
