Works great if you use it the right way.

After reading both positive and negative reviews on this product, I decided to spend seven dollars and give it a try. My shower quickly turned into an unwanted bath, and five minutes later I was ankle-deep in water. I've tried Liquid Plumr and Drano and they seemed to help a bit, but I couldn't find anything that completely cleared the drain. After receiving the FlexiSnake, I had my doubts. It's essentially a piece of flexible wire wrapped with Velcro. It seems quite flimsy and I was concerned I might have made a bad purchase. I tried it anyway and fed it down the drain. I was amazed at what he pulled out! Strands of hair from what must have been many years ago, again and again. I kept pushing it in until it stopped, pulling out more and more debris. When all was said and done, I had a clean, free-flowing drain. Some suggestions/comments: - If you can remove the drain cap to clear the drain hole as much as possible, do so. This makes the work much less labor intensive. The FlexiSnake was only about 14 inches long. If the clog is deep in the drain, it is better to dismantle the pipe at the J bend and get to the clog. from there. - I have used this on four different occasions and have been successful each time. Clean it after each use by pulling your hair off the FlexiSnake and rinsing it under hot water. I see no reason why they can't be used again and again with proper cleaning. Again, it's like Velcro, so cleaning it is the same as pulling out random hair, only on a bigger (and nastier) scale. I haven't had any trouble cleaning up after each use, so I don't quite understand why other reviewers have had such troubles. Of course, for at least three times the price, you could buy a professional dewatering auger that would do the trick as well. However, if you don't do this when you don't know what to do with it, you could damage wiring or pipes. ake can scratch and scratch drain rings and sinks easily. To me, this is an easy 5 star rating.
