We are really loving these Hot Dots learning activity books. My preschooler loves to count, so this math book is great for getting some counting practice in. I never worked on pattern recognition, and this book includes that, so I’m so glad we’re getting some exposure with that (i.e. circle, circle, square, circle, circle —insert what comes next). It also covers big and small, shapes, the most and the least themes, heavy and light, as well as matching. There’s a lot to learn in this workbook, and it’s a lot of fun.Two areas of improvement: The Pen—My child tends to hold it in the middle or more toward the top, and the sound button always seems to get turned off. I don’t really know of a better placement for this button, but it’s worth mentioning. Maybe one of those slider buttons would be better at preventing the sound being turned off so easily.The dots themselves don't seem very small, but still seem to cause us some issues when in use. Since the pen is quite large, my kiddo will often choose the right answer, put the pen down on the dot, but miss the dot slightly which then gives us a red light and a "sad” beep. Even though the answer is right, missing the dot makes you think that you’re wrong because you get the red light and sad sound. I then have to say "try that dot again” and reassure that the answer is correct. I do wish the dots were just a little bit larger to give the pen a broader area to make contact with the dot. It's not a major issue, as most of the time we do hit the dot just fine, but it's also something I've noticed that has happened several times.Otherwise, these books are awesome, very educational and a lot of fun! More of 4.5 Stars for us.
