Review on SAMSUNG Internal Gaming MZ V8P2T0B AM by Mateusz Banaszkiewic ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I like the product very much, fully consistent with my expectations.

The SSD 980 PRO is an excellent solid state drive. I needed an SSD for games of 2 TB or more, for Windows there is already the same SSD but 250 GB. In general, I compared it many times with other solid state 2022 and 2022. Here is the new 8nm Elpis controller, unlike the old Phison E12, which is used by almost all SSD manufacturers. Due to this, unrealistically high sequential read speeds. This is proven by real tests. He is still out of competition. It is second only to WD_BLACK SN850 and Seagate FireCuda 530, and then, mainly in terms of write speed. But since WD_BLACK SN850 is very hot, it heats up in 10 seconds to 110 C, FireCuda 530 and Corsair SSD also get very hot, it remains that the 980 Pro is a tempting offer. Moreover, not a single manufacturer will give a guarantee of 5 years, and this is reliability, Samsung has proven this more than once. And I’ll tell you a secret, all m.2 SSDs, when the temperature reaches more than 70C or the cache overflows, run into throttling, but surprisingly, the Samsung m.2 SSD doesn’t have this, despite the fact that it doesn’t have a heatsink, copper is enough, and now nickel plate-sticker. We still need to try so that it heats up to 70C, even if there is 1 fan nearby, it is unlikely to reach such temperatures, it has not been noticed. Samsung NVMe m.2 drives have already become massive and popular, it’s not for nothing that they are still in the top of the SSD rating even in 2022. They have proven themselves well and you can trust them 100%. I already have the 3rd drive from Samsung. The main advantage of the 980 PRO is that it is the coldest SSD with high performance, and this is a big plus, so they began to put it on a mass scale in laptops. You will hardly find another such SSD, which means that there will always be acceptable write and read speeds, because. this is the only SSD that does not throttling when it reaches 70C, which is worth a lot. compared downloading a Fallout 4 save: on HDD - 80 sec., 960 Evo - 12 sec., 980 Pro (in PciE 3.0 mode) - 9 sec.

Pros
  • There was no time to write a review, finally decided. The SSD was purchased in 2022. Manufacturing process: 128-layer 256Gb TLC 3D V-NAND (3-bit MLC), 8nm Elpis controller, Memory type - LPDDR4. Elpis is designed specifically to work with 6th generation memory and PCI-E 4.0. SLC caching is performed using Intellegent TurboWrite 2.0 technology - more advanced than in the 970 EVO Plus, there was Intellegent TurboWrite 1.0. The larger the storage capacity, the larger its capacity can be used by the dynamic cache during SLC caching. Therefore, the 2 TB option, when using the cache, gives higher linear read and write data, as well as more IOPS. Sequential read speed - 7000 MB / s, sequential write speed - 5000 MB / s (but this is only for motherboards with PCI Express 4.0). The proprietary Samsung Magician utility, there are no complaints about it, you can analyze the real read and write speeds, temperature and the filled volume of the SSD.
Cons
  • 1. It is a pity that there is no volume of 4 TB, unlike competitors, I wanted just such an SSD. Samsung has a 3.84 Tb SSD, but these are different drives. Here you have to sacrifice volume for the sake of performance. 2. Declared read and write speeds only for motherboards with PCI Express 4.0 slots, in fact, on PCI Express 3.0, approximately at the level of 970 EVO Plus, 2 times less, here the sequential read speed is 3500 MB / s, and the sequential write speed is 2600 MB/s Therefore, you need a motherboard with support for PCI Express 4.0. 3. Before buying a second m.2 SSD, you need to consider the number of processor lines (relevant for Intel). If you have a 28 lane gem and have 1 SSD, it will take X4 lanes and you are left with X16 for the graphics card and X8 for the other Pci-Express slots. You need a 44 or 48 lane CPU, then you can even plug in 4 m.2 SSDs in X4 mode. I had to replace my i7 -7820x with an i9-10980XE first. In the future, I plan to completely change the entire configuration in order to feel the declared read and write speeds.
