Review on πŸ’» Enhance Your iMac 2011 Performance with the OWC Digital Thermal Sensor HDD Upgrade Cable (OWCDIDIMACHDD11) by Mark Gardner

Works well, system is happy with it

I used this cable to upgrade an old 2012 Mac to an SSD and it works well. No data issues and the fan doesn't work, so it looks like the cable is doing the job. Fairly pricey for what it does, but for me it was worth it to keep the system fully satisfied (i.e. not thinking about it getting hot all the time). Either way, installation was as easy as you'd expect on one of these computers (cheers to the YouTube video). The only minor hiccup was due to the large amount of extra connectors (the computer's hard drive cable now connects to this cable, which in turn connects to the SSD - so there's an extra connector to plug in somewhere). It fits under the drive, but I was concerned about the sharp bend in the wires, which I'm assuming must be some sort of micro-coax cable (I could be wrong), so I had to scratch my head a bit to shape them without kinks - they're a bit stiff and not very long. I finally did it and the SSD is working as it should, but I wonder if I would have had problems if I hadn't been so careful not to stress the wires. There's plenty of room for a small temperature sensor board and no wiring hassles. So everything is fine and the Mac is probably 10x faster than it was with its old hard drive - SSDs really are a great way to revive an old slow machine. Highly recommended.
