Works in my 21.5 " iMac

Bought to install an SSD in my 2011 21.5" iMac. I replaced the original magnetic drive with an SSD which required a converter bracket to change from 2.5" to 3.5" in the bay as expected. The OWC site and a bunch of installation videos didn't really indicate the need for a mount so I bought it just in case and ended up needing it. The thermal cable was easy to install, but routing it under the iMac components was a little tricky and time-consuming. I ended up carefully sliding it under the SSD…

Works great but not easy for everyone

This is a must have for upgrading a 2011 iMac from HDD to SSD; however, it will not be easy for everyone. especially if you don't usually disassemble electronics. I recommend having 2 people on hand to reduce anxiety when something is stuck or difficult to reach in a confined space and you need 2 hands free (another person can hold/balance the LCD screen). Some cable connections are VERY small/thin and can break under load. Alone I walked very slowly and methodically finished in a couple of…

The right tools for the job

The tools included in this kit are perfect for replacing your hard drive. I was more careful with the screwdrivers knowing they could be easily scraped off and they did a great job. Just move slowly and easily, with a steady hand (not too much coffee, huh), and take your time manipulating the small, flimsy-looking ports. It's actually pretty quick. I found the video easy enough. I don't think Revain will resolve the link, but if you google "owc imac 2011 hard drive update" the first search…

Works well, system is happy with it

I used this cable to upgrade an old 2012 Mac to an SSD and it works well. No data issues and the fan doesn't work, so it looks like the cable is doing the job. Fairly pricey for what it does, but for me it was worth it to keep the system fully satisfied (i.e. not thinking about it getting hot all the time). Either way, installation was as easy as you'd expect on one of these computers (cheers to the YouTube video). The only minor hiccup was due to the large amount of extra connectors (the…

Works like a charm but installation instructions can be used

I used this to replace a 2011 iMac hard drive with an SSD. Without them, 2011 (and newer?) iMacs will keep the hard drive fan running at high speed because these iMacs depend on proprietary firmware on their OEM hard drives to report temperature data to the fan control system. There are no installation instructions. exist, and it's somehow quite difficult to find neither prose nor video guides on how to replace an iMac hard drive with an SSD. (All I could find, including the link to the…

very happy with all owc products

I am replacing my mid 2011 iMac 21.5 with i5 2.5Ghz hard drive with an OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G 1TB SSD. this pack gives me all the basic tools i need to get the job done. It was very easy if you can follow the instructions, it didn't take long and now I have a Mac that is almost as fast as brand new devices, much cheaper and now I know how to replace it. The difference in speed is amazing, check the benchmarks: the original hard drive ran at around 95MB read and 98.6MB write speeds. Now my…
