Mind you: not very wide for WW

I was happy to find the shoe that came in WW but it was a big disappointment. For reference, I usually only wear W (regular width), but I needed the extra width for very thick socks. Although this shoe is said to be very wide, it's actually narrower than all of my W shoes. My old, chunky Avia 7 Ws are 4 1/4 inches wide at their widest point; widest point. The upper is very stretchy so technically your wide foot will fit in there, but since the insole is only 3 3/4 inches your foot has no support where the excess stretches out on the sides. I was dying to keep them because apart from the width they are pretty good, but I find it odd that the edges of my foot don't have an insole underneath. Disappointing is the lack of size standardization based on actual inches and because we don't have such issues where the WW is actually less wide than the W. I'm on this hunt because my year old Avia (pictured) is literally falling apart. They used to be so comfortable and wide, but Avia switched their production to "last" (moulding) so now their width is smaller than before.
