Review on πŸ”§ Dorman 604-029 HVAC Blend Door Actuator: Efficient Solution for Select Vehicle Models by Jamie Rogers

Thank god for Dorman. I can really afford to fix my car.

I appreciate Dorman's manufacturing of automotive products. They are usually much cheaper than those made by car manufacturers (Chrysler in this case). Considering the original broke after just a few years, Chrysler doesn't seem averse to using cheap plastic gears in their products. I expect this Dorman to last at least as long and hopefully longer. In any case, it costs less than $20 and I was able to install it myself. There were no surprises and it fit just like the original. Update 9 months in advance: my wife says it's making that clicking noise again. At this point it is intermittent. I'll have to pull it out and see if the plastic gears are broken. However, it would be hard to say anything bad about Dorman. That's bad Chrysler design. Edit: I removed the Dorman drive and opened it up. I don't see any broken cogs, so I'm adding the sprocket back for now. One more change: I've been using the second one for about 6 months and I'm starting to hear strange noises behind the glove box. I'm afraid it won't work again. These things seem to have a lifespan of about 8 months, give or take. I'm wondering if what's driving this thing doesn't realize that the door is already closed and keeps trying to close it harder and then eventually breaks the actuator.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
