Review on πŸ”Œ Raspberry Pi Motor Driver HAT with PCA9685 and TB6612FNG for Two DC Motors, I2C Interface, 5V 3A, Stackable up to 32 Modules by Janalee Black

Documentation is weak - software out of date

The software provided is limited to archaic Python (2.x), so generally useless. Trying to convert it was useless, so I ended up having to download and modify competitor drivers to make it work at all. The documentation suffers in two areas: first, the typical ESOL problems, exacerbated by the technical assumption that the reader knows more than he or she could, and second, the lack of a detailed explanation of the I2C interface.

Pros
  • Embedded PCA9685 chip, provides 12-bit hardware PWM to adjust motor speed; Onboard TB6612FNG dual H-bridge motor driver, high efficiency, low heat
Cons
  • Not as good as advertised
