I've always covered my little remotes - I made my own before I knew you could buy them. I recently ordered my 4th (5th?) Fire TV Stick and its remote is smaller than before with more buttons so a new cover was needed. I understand it. I love it except it doesn't have a lanyard (my lover has one) but I can tie a lanyard to it - at least it has a lanyard hole. The worst part was that there was too much material around all the buttons - why is that necessary? My previous covers - no. Anyway, I cut out the superfluous part - now I can control it freely and much easier, especially in the dark just by touching it. Plus, it's a lot easier to put on and take off - which by the way isn't impossible - this case is perfect for the remote it's designed for. However, it helps a lot to cut out the front a bit.
