Although it takes a little patience and work, it gives you almost the same benefits as at home. I am very happy with the results. I tested 3 of my knives before writing this and they continue to cut paper for a few months after being 15% sharpened and all I did was straighten them with steel from time to time . Poorly? It's NOT cheap, it's made in the USA and it really is a quality product. In addition, and more importantly, it is difficult to make small knives with a very low angle with it. I went back to stones for my paring knives and pocket knives. But it's great for chef knives etc.
