I think that's a good idea.

I thought it was great, but after getting one that contains two dozen eggs, I would like to buy two, one dozen containers, because if you have a dozen eggs left, buy the second dozen, the date will only be accurate for the first dozen. I wish the container had a silicone liner to cushion the eggs. It could be removed for cleaning. One egg got stuck so I had to carefully remove all of the eggs without dropping them into the hard plastic container. I like that I can see the eggs through the container and know the date of purchase. I recommend buying a dozen sizes for every dozen you buy so there aren't conflicting dates if you add eggs from a different purchase date.
