After months of horrible experiences with my BIPAP machine, I was tired of even trying to get it up and running despite my severe CNS apnea bring. I knew that lack of oxygen and good sleep had all sorts of dangerous consequences, including falling asleep while driving. Although I switched 3 types of masks, tightened the straps so tight I got a terrible headache, adjusted my bed to sit all night, nothing helped. I was ready to give up, even if it meant my insurance would no longer cover the cost of my equipment. I was depressed and getting worse every day. I sleep on my side, so that comes with its own problems: facial pain from shifting (and constantly tightening the straps) of the masks, lack of oxygen, loud "belches". Noises, whistles and gagging noises that not only kept me and my partner awake but also startled the dog - to the point that he climbed onto the bed and stood on top of my spouse. We have come to terms with the fact that we are going to have a very nervous dog. It wasn't until I was woken up by my horrific exorcist noises and saw my dog react for a few seconds that I realized the reason for her shyness. All the antidepressants, tranquilizers, Thundershirts, and CBD products we gave him were a waste of his time. I had another appointment with my pulmonologist and have already ordered a third type of mask. However, I tried the Lunderg side sleeper CPAP pillow for the first time last night. The softness of the cover was great, the pillow height was perfect and the different sized cut outs were just awesome! For the first time in years, I slept most of the night. I woke up this morning feeling refreshed and free of the headaches and lethargy I normally experience. I just cried like a child.
