Upfront and honest I think this webcam would be over the top and over the top for most general consumers just looking for a webcam for video chatting. with friends and family. But then again, if that's the case, then you don't even need a webcam - FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON, YOUR SMARTPHONE'S CAMERA IS MORE THAN GOOD. Gone are the days when we bought Logitech C920 and the like for video chatting. Now all we need is our phones. As such, most webcams are only useful in professional/office environments where you need specialized software to video chat with multiple people during a meeting. And in that case, this Jimcom webcam is the best I've ever used. My experience with dedicated webcams started about 20 years ago when smartphones were still a crazy idea and video calling was only possible on a computer or laptop via Skype. or Messenger AOL or Yahoo. I've probably gone through about ten of them, and the last (and best) was the aforementioned Logitech C920, which has been the king of consumer webcams for almost a decade. After about 2015, smartphone front cameras were good enough to replace them, as well as a plethora of messaging apps, making it a lot more convenient than taking the time to sit in front of a computer. So I had no experience with a professional webcam like this Jimcom webcam. And the contrast is immediately noticeable. While Logitech was amazing for its time with how clear and bright it was, it just blows it out of the water. First, the aperture is insanely wide, starting at just f/1.6. This is the brightness level of the main DSLR lens and it is displayed. In any light, I could see my face clearly. Also, it has optical zoom, not digital, which means image quality remains high even when zoomed in. The range is 10X, from fish eye level to almost human eye level (47mm) field of view. 1080p resolution and very clear. The image sensor is manufactured by Sony, which makes the world's best consumer camera sensors. Finally, since it is a PTZ webcam, it is equipped with a motorized pan mechanism that can rotate 330 degrees, which is almost in all directions. It comes with a remote control for convenient zooming and rotating, as well as other features, especially during a business meeting so you don't have to constantly switch back and forth between your computer and what you're doing. Like almost all PTZ webcams, they are consumer oriented, so this camera is priced accordingly. However, it's no more expensive than other brands, especially from Logitech itself, so for quality I can vouch for, it's fair value. $500 is a lot for a webcam, any webcam, and if I hadn't gotten them to review I wouldn't be buying them myself. So, once again, I don't recommend this for the individual everyday consumer. But if you have a business and want to step up your business video calls and meetings, then this is a great option.
