I didn't buy this to deter criminals but because I needed a plastic dome for something else needed and it was the best cheap place i could get a dome. Based on the description of this product, this is a pretty decent 'mimic' of a security camera that is strikingly similar in design to real cameras (I have a few real ones and they look pretty much the same). Some people might think: Many cambered security cameras, real ones, don't use flashes. I'm not sure why the blinking light makes something more realistic. Apart from this detail, the product itself is very similar to a real camera.* MOTION DETECTION? no I have no idea why people thought that! The product description/design may have changed from some of the older reviews as some people mention a "motion detection" feature which this product clearly *doesn't* have. If you take it apart you will see that it has a switch, a battery holder and a blinking LED. That's all. To turn the product on or off, press the outer black edge of the dome and the switch will click and the light will flash or turn off. I've seen other more expensive models with this feature, but this product doesn't list it in the description.* OPERATION: You insert batteries. You press down on the outer black border until the switch clicks, turning it off or on. The LED blinks when it's on.* Overall: I'm giving a 4 because it exactly matches the product description and is functional. I can't give a 5 because there are some small scuffs on the dome that bother me. It's not that the product isn't new, it just happens in factories that make cheap plastic domes.
