PCM Hammer and TunerPro for open source LS engine tuning

I have an old 1999 Chevy Suburban that I've decided to get more performance out of than replace. I found a camper with maximum towing capacity and gross vehicle weight rating, but the old lady struggled. One of the things I wanted was a tow/carry mode. I pulled the PCM out of a 2001 Chevy Express van and put it in my truck. These PCMs are configured to have the BCM tell them over the data bus when to go into tow/carry mode, but a setting in the .bin file can be changed to activate with a momentary switch. Almost every aspect of the engine and transmission can be changed by changing the options in this .bin file. Typically, this change requires an expensive configuration interface, software, and license. This interface is much cheaper and allows you to use the open source PCM Hammer software to read and save the program in PCM. Once this .bin file is saved it can be merged with the desired definition files in TunerPro and the values changed, the changed file saved and then using PCM Hammer to write the changed file back to PCM. It also leaves the door open to delve into the world of tuning and modifying engines or destroying flawless engines. modifications for this purpose. I'm so glad it actually worked.
