Review on Halogen Equivalent Dimmable Candelabra Ceiling by Chris Hernandez

Bright, warm light, best suited for LED bulbs

I was looking forward to replacing our halogen ceiling fan lights (75w halogens) with LEDs and brightening up the room at the same time. First I chose the "JKLcom" ("daylight") LED, and then this one. I compare them to both original JKLcom halogen bulbs and daylight bulbs. Obviously, the first benefit here is the ability to replace the halogen bulb with a more energy efficient one. We have a large family, and no matter how much I urge the kids to turn off the lights after they leave the room, the lights stay on too often, wasting energy. By replacing all of our light bulbs with LEDs over the past 4 years, we have reduced our total household electricity consumption by 1/3. The last commonly used incandescent light bulbs in the home were in two sealed halogen ceiling fans (E11 base/t4 shaped mini candelabra). I considered switching the lighting fixtures on these fans to LED, but it seemed wasteful to me, so instead I waited for the e11-based LED bulbs to come out with a brightness that surpassed the 75W halogen bulbs. Waste of energy from halogens, we didn't like the darkness of these lights either. While the 75W halogen bulb is by no means weak, it's not enough to provide good task lighting in a room where children often read or play board games etc. We definitely didn't want a *dimmer* bulb, so the LEDs have been firing out of control for a few years. These LED vs. Halogen bulbs: These bulbs are definitely brighter than the 75W halogen bulbs they replaced. Not sure if they match the advertised 100w halogen bulbs but they are definitely better than 75w incandescent bulbs. Light quality is very good: a warm, soft light that doesn't cast harsh shadows and produces a color that's close to that of an incandescent bulb, as far as my eyes can tell while reading a book. "Dimming" until fully switched on without interference and flickering. I should note that our ceiling fans use a 'remote controlled' dimmer (meaning there is a power line going from the switch to the fan and the wall switch controls the fan and light by sending a signal to a receiver in the fan housing). myself), and at least for now the remote's "off" position leaves enough current to the bulb to keep it on in very low light (whereas a halogen bulb had too much light resistance at that low current). I'm looking for a halogen free light setting in the 'remote' that I can toggle, but for now we use the 'hard' switch on the remote to turn the light off completely (ie one that has both the fan as well as the light on the switch interrupts). I mention this because I've seen others complain about this with other LED bulbs and the replies say the wiring must be wrong; I don't think the remote wiring is wrong here, just that it leaves a little current in the line to keep the halogen bulb slightly warm even when the lights are off. " from the circuits at certain dimming levels. I couldn't hear any squeaking from them even when I was on the stairs next to the ceiling fan itself. I've heard this squeal from other LEDs before and sent these bulbs back to store as such high-pitched noise annoying at times. That means there's a lot of light emitted in all directions except the end. There are a few LEDs that emit light, but the corner of the room that this end is pointing to is noticeably darker than the rest of the room (and not in the case of a halogen lamp.) We solved this problem by rotating the lamp so that the "dark corner" was directed towards an unused part of the room (e.g. towards the TV in the common room). , where no one is sitting). In terms of energy efficiency, I have no reason to doubt the 9 watt consumption claim on the box. After the light was on for a period during (in a closed fixture) a "Heat check" showed that the base was a little warm as expected from an LED lamp, but the outer glass is still cool to the touch. JKLcom 13W fluorescent lamps: as I said, I initially decided to increase the brightness as much as possible (as mentioned before, we have dimmers on these lamps so that we can always control them when needed). The JKLcom bulbs deliver 1300 lumens, which is equivalent to a 13W 120W halogen bulb. I'm a bit disappointed with these lamps. They seemed a little brighter than the halogens they replaced, but color rendering was terrible. Yes, it's very blue fluorescent, but we have fluorescent in other rooms (like my office) that didn't leave us with the cold, harsh glow that JKL bulbs gave off. More importantly in this review, while these 9W/1100 lumen bulbs are significantly more yellow (which usually makes the light appear less bright), they were significantly brighter than JKL's 1300 lumen bulbs. JKLcom lamps have an extra "row" of LED boards (13 rows instead of 12) but still look dimmer than this. The difference was immediately apparent to the eye, but I ended up climbing the stairs to switch between the bulbs and snapping a few shots with my DSLR to compare and I'm sure my eyes didn't catch me To deceive. here. I'm not sure if they're brighter than their rating or if the JKLcom bulbs are dimmer than their rating, but the bottom line is that those 9-watt bulbs put out more usable light than the 13-watt bulbs, so this is a good deal for me. . At the end of the day, color temperature was a key factor in getting us to return the JKLcom bulbs, but even without that I'm happy to have a significantly more efficient bulb (again on paper; I didn't wire everything to the actual wattage of these bulbs) to get more light of the best quality. Durability: Currently unknown, of course. I just put them in. They are mounted in a high speed setup (ceiling fan lighting kits) and mostly indoors (halogens tend to be totally enclosed as they are more efficient the hotter they get), although there is no thermal insulation above them. This is the equivalent of LED lamp torture; all that's missing is humidity/humidity (sorry, I'm in California and we don't have very high humidity here and don't have it in the bathroom/shower). They come with a one-year warranty, which isn't as nice as the three-year warranty some other companies offer, but it's better than nothing. I'll update if/when they break with the length of their lifespan. However, I fully expect that like the other LEDs in my house they will last for many years and ultimately save me not only on my electricity bill but also on the cost of replacing bulbs. The bulbs were well packaged in a small box with a tight black styrofoam insert that held them in place. Not exactly unboxing at "apple" level, but much nicer than the unmarked white box that most other small Chinese lightbulbs come in (including the JKLcom lightbulbs mentioned above). From a brand I've never heard of before, the box and instructions (e.g. for the screw bulb) are written in grammatically correct and clear English. It's a small thing, of course, but it's the little things that make a good impression and I won't hesitate to buy from this company again!
