Metal shavings found on base

I was looking for a cheap HSF and ended up ordering Deep Cool Gammaxx 400 and Cooler Master Hyper 212 LED. Both coolers cost around $20 and are similar in size and design (4 heatpipes, direct contact). ) has a thin band of irregularly shaped metal shavings where the aluminum section wraps around the heat pipes. With a metal pick I was able to knock out some of them fairly easily, which is frankly awful for something meant to get into a computer. Back to Revain! It is difficult to say whether this is an isolated case, but a closer look at the product images on the Deep Cool website also reveals slight roughness on the edges of the heat pipes. Luckily, the Cooler Master Hyper 212 didn't have this problem because its bottom is polished to a smooth finish (no milling marks or chips visible here). The Hyper 212 also comes in much better packaging, includes a proper instruction manual and appears to have some full-length ribs (i.e. more surface area). All in all, the Hyper 212 looks better even without metal shavings. value in this price range. Note that the coolers were 154.5mm (Gammaxx 400) and 160mm (Hyper 212) - this was my original reason for buying both as my maximum cooler height was 155mm. Fortunately, both proved suitable.
