Grech CBC 500 VS Fluval C-3

When I saw this filter on Amazon I was impressed with the good UV light idea for my 20 gallon rig but after using the filter his became deficiencies evident. Me. The filter reminds me of aquaclear 30 in the way it handles media, except it has 2 top baskets, one for bio media and one for charcoal any significant impact, and the 2"x 2" square foam is a joke. maybe a bigger block would be better but i guess not. Too small a filter for his shellfish, supporting 20 gallons. 2) I tested the unit with UV light for a week, did nothing for green water, 5W UV light is a joke and just not powerful enough to do any real good. I did some research on UV bulbs and found that a minimum of 9 watts is recommended to have any real impact on my setup. With Grech 500 my water quality has deteriorated dramatically. The 500 streams well, as does Fluval, but the media just can't handle it. I returned my Fluval and after 12 hours the water showed a significant improvement so I'm giving this filter a FAIL for filter quality and UV performance. That surprises me given all the rave reviews. Please note I've been keeping aquariums for years so I'm not new here, have used many cooktops and canisters but this thing is nothing more than a glorified water circulation box.
