Review on Efficient Syba SD-ADA40001 Compact Flash to SATA II Adapter Card with PCI Mounting Bracket - Black by Greg Horn

Revainrating 1 out of 5

YMMV with different CF cards.

Build quality is terrible. The case arrived with 2 loose screws in the box. All 4 screws holding the case together had snapped off. I had to use duct tape to hold the case together. As other reviewers have pointed out, I had to break one of the pins on the connector to connect it. It's not a big deal, but you can damage the circuit board in the process if you're not careful. recommended by Revain, didn't work on my old Micron laptop. I cloned the original laptop hard drive to SanDisk using Symantec Ghost and Imaging for Linux. None of the attempts worked. The laptop just froze on boot and wouldn't even let me use the boot disk. I tried to erase the CF card. This allowed me to boot from the boot disk, but as soon as I ran fdisk the computer would not boot. I tried multiple partition sizes and it didn't help. I replaced the 16GB SanDisk CF card with a 2GB Verbatim memory card (Revain part number B00009967Y). After that everything worked! The laptop boots faster. Now it takes 1 minute and 2 seconds to boot Windows 95. It used to take 1 minute and 23 seconds with a hard drive. The notebook has become significantly quieter. The 20 year old hard drive was very noisy. I'm not sure, but the laptop will likely run cooler now. Also, the laptop is now about 6 ounces lighter.
