Review on Leak-Proof 2-Quart Rubbermaid Carafe (1878491) with Lid by Carlos Macy

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Almost perfect 2 liter jug

I bought this container to replace the containers I've used for years, the Rubbermaid Servin Saver White Bottle 2 Qt. . I've had several of these over the years, losing them by falling from a few inches to a few feet and always experiencing the same result - cracks. Yes, and they all leaked, so making powdered drinks was a mess. I've seriously considered leaving Rubbermaid, which I've always considered a quality and trusted brand, but I had enough trouble with Servin Saver before I stumbled upon this carafe. I'd say it's definitely durable and seems well made, but I doubt it will withstand a spill of several feet from the fridge. BUT, it doesn't leak when shaken! This is a HUGE plus. Plus, the curve in the middle makes it easier to shake without worrying about it slipping out of your hands. It doesn't fit on the top shelf of my fridge so I replaced it with a milk container on the fridge door shelf. never mind The only thing I don't like about this particular tank is that the tank line is very close to the top. Well, not exactly a line, but a circle, but when I filled my old two-liter container with water to find the carafe's capacity mark, it turned out that the top of the circle is the line. Nowhere is it mentioned exactly where you need to fill it in, for example on a line. Maybe it's the bottom of the circle? Or the middle? Or above? Just a circle around 1 or 2 which doesn't really make it clear. So, for those who might be confused, fill in the circle to the top. When adding candied powder drinks like 4C Iced Tea, you need to add 4 scoops, which take up a lot of space in the container. Soooo, adding those 4 scoops to 2 liters of water isn't quite right and leaves very little room to shake. So I fill the container halfway, shake the powder until it dissolves, then add as much of the remaining water as I can, but it's not the full 2 liters, just a little less. Nothing special, but if the carafe was a little wider at the bottom and a little wider at the top and left enough room, it would be the perfect vessel. Others have also mentioned that the top is difficult to remove; I didn't have the problem at all.

Pros
  • The markings on the side of the clear jug show how much liquid is inside.
Cons
  • boring packaging
