This is a test of the KB glass carafe model. Like many people, I've become too obsessed with coffee makers. I like a hot, strong cup of coffee with a rich flavor, and I use this machine on weekends when I have time to grind fresh beans. To start off this review, this coffee maker is visually cool and smaller than I thought it would be, although it fits nicely on the counter and under cabinets. I was attracted by the lack of controls as well as the quality of the parts that make up this device. I particularly liked the fact that the power cord is sturdy and not too small. As for the whole "blooming" of the fresh beans, this machine does NOT squeeze out a small amount of hot water to degas the fresh beans. For me, this wasn't a deal breaker with this device, but for those of you who want that option, this machine isn't for you. Why 3 stars and not 5? Spring. The first cups of coffee are fantastic (one cup for my wife and one for me, about 8 ounces each), but by the time you get to the second round of coffee 20 minutes after the first, the flavor of the coffee has burned off. This can have several reasons. 1. The carafe is small compared to Mr. Coffee style carafes, so there is less coffee at the bottom of the carafe and the glass is very thin, which promotes burning. 2. The hob is trying to hold hot coffee, may be trying to keep it too hot and will burn the last few cups. I don't know exactly why, I know it's so burning that I'm making enough coffee now to fill our first cups and if we need another round I'll make a new pot. I think a thermograph might be the best option if you're willing to take the time to heat it up first. Finally, a manual plastic switch on the filter part that can turn off or slow down the flow of coffee. Be careful! It's easy to forget and leave it closed. And if you forget, which you eventually do, it will lead to confusion. Bottom line, looking back, I would choose a thermograph with an automatic flow switch. Something like KBGT 741. Hope this helps you decide. Update: 10 months later and we love this thing so I've upped my rating to 5 stars. No problem if the burner is too hot, I just set the switch to half heat. And the plastic thing that regulates the flow? I've never had a problem with it and have learned to pay attention to the correct position. I use filtered water and freshly ground coffee. Very happy. No regret
