more arms than I know what to do with them

Solder wires can be such a problem sometimes, simply because it really takes more than two hands to get it right. 2 hands to just hold the 2 ends of the wire together, then another to hold the soldering iron and a fourth to feed the solder. Then you also need proper lighting and possibly a magnifying glass when soldering tiny surface mount components. It's just a hassle, but you do what you have to do to fix things instead of throwing them away and replacing them. Well I've been working with 2 helping hands for a few years and found it lacking. The clamps weren't strong enough and the handles weren't flexible. They didn't have much room to move. So many times I just had to get things "close enough" and pray it would work. More often than not, when it wasn't, it was a disappointing experience. The slightest touch of a soldering iron could move anything. The wires themselves were misaligned, and I ended up spending more time setting it up than soldering. In the end I decided to go broke and buy this device. No regret. It works well. Rigid arms allow you to hold thicker wire without shifting. If I need extra support I can use 2 clips/levers per wire! This is definitely a bonus. This time I actually have more clamps than necessary. The rubberized tip does not allow you to mark the wiring (especially when heated). Finally the light is bright enough. Because it's longer than the others, I can position it better to either use a magnifying glass or simply illuminate components without glare. Multiple LEDs allow for more diffuse lighting, while the adjustable color temperature and intensity works well for different situations. The base itself is heavy enough to prevent tipping, and the built-in trays are a nice touch for keeping all the different components together. The only thing that bothers me is that I wish I had my own USB adapter. I had a spare part from an old obsolete cell phone lying around, but I think something this simple should be included. The length of the LED cable is long enough, which is great. I usually use a soldering iron extension anyway, so having an equally long, if not longer, light cord is a must. The actual length of the arms is also quite large. I am very happy.

Pros
  • 6 Flexible Arms - Flexible gooseneck arms help you easily position your arms where you want. Improved arm, not easy to break; eliminates the frustration of traditional helping hands. Very suitable for difficult welding such as airplane model repair, easy solder clamping and working. Reusable and eco-friendly.
Cons
