Review on πŸ”ͺ WALRUS OIL - Food-Safe Cutting Board and Butcher Block Oil, 8 oz Bottle by Joe Whitman

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good for the price, 8 ounces. Not Enough for Big Board

Bought because of good reviews and prices. Nothing really special other than edible mineral oil, coconut oil, etc. But 8 oz. not enough for my new 16x20" birch cutting board. The result is normal, no particular complaints. But I still need to apply a second coat to properly lubricate the board to satisfy me. I'm glad I got one learned - apply one coat against the directions and wipe off the excess after 12-24 hours In fact the best thing to do on a new or clean but very dry cutting board is a good coat or coat of oil with a small cheap one 2" brush (Walmart for $1). But then put the paper towels on the wet board. The reason for this is that it helps the oil penetrate better. It took me a little over 3 days to paint both sides of this one Birch boards and most retail boards are made from yellow birch Birch is a dense pore wood and when the board is new or clean but very dry it will take longer to finish properly in the oil e insoft to really protect it. Even after rubbing the excess paper towels into the wood when removing them, it still took another day before they were dry enough to use. Use hot water and soap to clean before oiling. Use ONLY COLD WATER and soap to clean wooden floorboards. Using hot water actually opens up the pores and allows the stains to penetrate the wood. Hot water and soap will also remove oil from wood, but cold water and mild soap will not. I would stay away from dish soap as most contain ingredients designed to remove oily residue from pots and pans. Use only cold water and mild soap to clean the board. Hope this helps you all.
