Review on Convenient and Versatile: Malone Downloader Folding J-Style ๐Ÿš— Universal Car Rack Kayak Carrier with Bow and Stern Lines by Russ Mashlan

Revainrating 4 out of 5

"Universal " Fits a couple of power tools

After speaking to a Malone rep on the phone who convinced me that they are suitable for universal use on all crossbars, I decided to to take a risk. If she were to be more specific I would give 5/5 stars. If you have wide roll bars like on my 2011 RAV4, they're not sure to tighten to your liking without some trimming. Use a dremel (or saber saw like me lol) to cut a wider hole in the bottom of the plastic. Once you have the posts lined up the way you want them I recommend putting 3M non-slip tape on the top of the cross rails to really get the most out of the posts. You won't regret $6 a roll at the hardware store. Don't worry about the included black and white instructions on how to attach the kayak to the roof. Either check out the color copies on their website or just use your common sense. Contrary to their instructions, I wrap the strap around the entire kayak and rack, not just the u-bar and front of the kayak. Seems safer in my opinion. After spending 15-20 minutes trimming the plastic and tightening everything properly, this system feels incredibly reliable when my 10 foot kayak is hitting the freeway at over 80 mph. If you hate backing up on the freeway, don't buckle all the extra seatbelts. When the people behind you go crazy and you have a little more breathing room!
