I ordered this after I got sick of using a fine mesh strainer alongside my crummy free hawthorne strainer to keep out ice chips. To my delight, this does a very good job at keeping out those pesky small ice chips without having to whip out extra equipment!Just for that I think the cleaning process is justified. It's relatively easy to just pull off the spring and wash it separately, just don't lose the spring. I have ordered a second spring from barfly to double up on this strainer, which is what I did with the old hawthorne I had. The main reason I got this one is the greater control on pours, whether you want to do so gated, partially gated, or open, its so easy you dont even have to think about it.
