The first one I got was defective but I got a replacement and so far so good. I've tested it over 3 miles and so far 2 miles is the range this guy does great and if you're just monitoring fiber links from the hub to the terminal this should work fine. Just make sure you use good quality AA batteries like Duracell or Energizer.
