Review on Fanimation WFR8531 WiFi Receiver by Linda Porter

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The app for this still requires a LOT of work.

Update: Now June 2021, no improvements or bug fixes. I would REALLY like to return this item. I bought this item but not from Revain. I love the fan designs this company offers. But the WIFI part just isn't there. He has a number of problems. When you first launch an app, you have no idea if it's actually connected to a fan or not. If you try to change settings, you will receive notifications that are not "connected". So you wait and wait and wait and if you're lucky it finally connects after about 45 seconds. But some nights it doesn't connect at all. In addition, there is a "schedule" function that allows you to program the on and off times. HOWEVER, it does not suggest times based on sunrise or sunset. Also, it is possible to adjust the brightness of the light from 1-100%. However, if you add a schedule, the light will always turn on at 20% no matter what I ask. Finally, it says that it is compatible with SMARTTINGS, but it is not. it is only partially compatible. It works with smart things through the IFTTT app. So you can set it to turn on the fan when you open the door. But in fact, fans and lights are not shown as available devices in the SmartThings app. This was a big disappointment for me. That was also one of the main reasons why I bought this not-so-smart fan. Another thing is that it doesn't work with Apple Home Kit.

Pros
  • Download the free Fanimation fanSync mobile app from the Apple App or Google Play store.
Cons
  • Empty.
