Difficult to install dual component bulbs

Purchased to replace the bulbs in our van reading lights. They consist of two separate parts: a small round part that rotates where the bulb fits and a light that attaches to the round part with two pins. It's almost impossible to install the lights if you put them together first, and it's only slightly easier to line up the pins and holes if you insert the round piece into the light and then try to line up the pins with the holes. Also, we have one of those lanterns that falls apart every time we travel. They're a little frustrating.
