What could be better than that it just works. As with many other accessories I have, the mini display port to USB 3.1/Thunderbolt 3 just doesn't work and the adapter in between. You need to go straight from VGA (or whatever you have) to USB 3.1 Type-C (Thunderbolt 3) and this adapter will do the trick. We have an older Epson PowerLite 1761W projector with a full range of ports, VGA/DP/USB A and B/HDMI. But for this to work with the new MacBook Air, it needs to be a port on the back of the projector (or the exact equivalent, like this VGA adapter) straight to USB3.
