Very happy with these units. I have 3 of these and they work GREAT with my Macs. I used to use eSATA/SATA towers but found USB 3.0 to be fast enough for me, especially on a gigabit network (probably bottleneck). I've used this side-by-side with a Thunderbolt 2 box I got and they were comparable (perhaps the bottleneck is the hard drive speed as I mostly have 5400rpm drives). I was able to guide customers through installing drives in the sled. I mainly use 3.5" drives, but I think I eventually added a 2.5" drive as well. I am using a Mac software RAID to create JBOD disk groups. For example, 4TB and 6TB together make a 10TB drive. If your Mac is strangely shutting down/putting your drives to sleep, just go to System Preferences -> Sleep and uncheck "Put hard drives to sleep when possible". Hard drives will not hibernate unless you eject them. You might not even love it, so it's not necessary, but I had so many things plugged into my aging MacBook that it seemed to help my stability. I will get more of this. Excellent value for money and quality
